Pacific Jewels & Wildlife Adventure

Day 1
You land in Costa Rica’s capital city of San Jose, where you are greeted by our guide and begin the adventure of a lifetime. You drive past Cartago, Costa Rica’s original capital, and then begin to climb up into one of the country’s most magical Paramo forests. You take a short hike into our eco-lodge, which is an off-the-grid family farm. Relax and soak up the views after a long day of travel.

Day 2
You spend the day on the Seelye farm learning about sustainability and organic gardening. You take a breathtaking hike through the surrounding forests and have a chance to climb the magical Castle Tree, a redwood relative that could possibly be a thousand years old. On your hike you learn about the highland forest and see many unique species of plants, trees, and birds that are endemic to this area. In the evening you have a wonderful dinner and drink tea by the fire.

Day 3
You wake early and continue your journey closer to the Pacific Ocean. Today you have a short hike (45 minutes) to our overnight destination, which is one of Costa Rica’s most enchanted locations, Diamante Verde Waterfalls. Along the hike, you pass an organic garden where you have the chance to try fresh sugarcane and learn about the medicinal herbs grown here. After a delicious lunch, you enjoy the many nearby swimming holes and may also go rappelling. You enjoy watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean from the top of a 900-foot waterfall before dinner. Tonight you sleep on comfortable cots in a giant cave, situated behind two waterfalls!

Day 4
Wake up to the sounds of the waterfall and tropical birds. After breakfast and coffee you take time to relax, and then continue with activities in the enchanting Diamante area. Lunch provides our last opportunity to soak in the magic of this hidden treasure before you hike out and head to our hilltop lodge on the Central Pacific coast. On the way to the lodge you will make a stop to meet Jack Ewing. Jack has an extensive nature reserve on the coast. You have the golden opportunity to hear his amazing story of cattle rancher turned environmentalist.

Day 5
Today is dedicated to learning the art of surfing! Once you catch a wave, you’ll be hooked! Learn to paddle, stand up, and ride a wave - you are sure to see great improvement in your skills today. Take a break and enjoy a picnic on the beach. Then, enjoy the afternoon horseback riding on one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, where the rainforest practically pours into the sea. This evening, you are rejuvenated with a delicious dinner cooked by a professional chef in your lodge.

Day 6
Breakfast, and then on the road to Costa Rica’s “last frontier,” the Osa Peninsula. Upon arrival, you visit an organic chocolate farm, where you have the chance to learn all about this delicious fruit called cacao. After you have had your fill of chocolate, you head to Iguana Lodge, on the coast. Iguana Lodge has integrated itself into the local community by building a library and giving scholarships to local students. You settle into the lodge and enjoy the evening on the beach

Day 7
Today you head out on a guided sea kayak tour through a magical mangrove forest. From the mangrove, you head out into the calm open waters in search of dolphins. The afternoon is spent on the beach in front of your lodge. In the evening, enjoy a special dinner at the lodge.

Day 8
In the early morning you drive deep in to the forest on a dirt road that takes you to a remote lodge on the border of Costa Rica’s most wild park, Corocovado National Park. Here you spend the next couple days at a tent camp, taking hikes into the primary forest where you have the chance to view all four species of monkeys, rainbow colored scarlet macaws, anteaters, and the elusive tapir. Bask in nature’s jewels along this stretch of beach and forest. Don’t forget your journal to record your experiences.

Day 9
Today you spend the day hiking in the magical Corcovado National Park.

Day 10
After a blissful morning in paradise you head back to Puerto Jimenez to take an in-country flight to San José. You fly over Costa Rica’s dramatic landscape to land in the capital city. Upon arrival, you enjoy a late lunch at Kalu Art Gallery/Restaurant, an art gallery of local, sustainable, and recycled material art in the heart of the Costa Rican urban landscape.

Day 11
Early this morning you head straight to the banks of the Pacuare River for an unforgettable day of white water rafting. This most scenic river slices through primary rainforest and plunges through mountain gorges which drop the most beautiful waterfalls right alongside your raft. You stop along the river to enjoy waterfalls and a delicious lunch. Once out of the river you drive back to San José and participate in a farewell dinner.

Day 12
After breakfast you head to the airport and bid farewell to our amazing guides. You then board the plane, filled with memories of our Costa Rican Adventure.
