This tour will expose you to the jewel in Costa Rica's crown. The Osa Peninsula is the last large expanse of untouched rainforest in a country that is one-third forest. In Corcovado National Park and the surrounding area, is still possible to witness the stunning beauty of animals like the scarlet macaw and the other rare creatures of the forest.

From the Osa you will make your way up to the beautiful cloud forests of Monteverde, a fascinating ecosystem unto it's own. Continue your exploration of Costa Rica by visiting its most active volcano, Arenal. End the adventure with a ride through the class III and IV rapids of the Pacuare River, guaranteed to challenge and exhilarate the most adventurous rafter.

Osa Adventure Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in San Jose and spend your first afternoon exploring the city. You may want to explore the National Museum that houses artifacts dating back to 10,000 B. C. or visit one of San Jose's many craft markets. Have a relaxing evening and get ready for your exciting adventure!

Overnight: San Jose

Day 2
In the morning catch your flight south to the Osa Peninsula. After your arrival you will be transferred to Carate. From there a guide from the Corcovado Tent Camp will be waiting to bring you on the thirty-minute walk to the Lodge (your luggage will be transported). This is where you will be staying for the next three nights. Nowhere else offers better access to Corcovado National Park. Your accommodations will be a permanent 10-foot canvas tent pitched on a wooden platform that rests comfortably on a grassy bluff just above the Pacific Ocean. The Lodge has a 198-acre reserve than runs right up to the park itself. The Lodge offers many activities and has an observation tower in the canopy. Beyond the magic of the private reserve and the park, there are miles of white sand beaches to explore. Spend your first afternoon wandering around the grounds or partaking in one of the myriad activities offered by the Lodge.

Overnight: Osa Peninsula, Corcovado Tent Camp Lodge

There is a fantastic trail system leaving from the lodge that will provide more than enough room for exploring.

Overnight: Osa Peninsula, Corcovado Tent Camp Lodge

Day 4
Spend the day partaking in those activities that you haven't yet gotten too, or just relax and savor a few more hours in this breathtaking corner of the world.

Day 5
In the morning you will hike out the way you came in and make your way back to the Central Valley and San Jose. Once in San Jose, make your way to the cloud forest of Monteverde. The drive will take you up through the dry forests of the northern Pacific, before you begin the climb towards the clouds. Spend your first night relaxing after a long day of travel.

Overnight: Monteverde

Day 6
Explore the canopy of the cloud forest on the SkyTrek. Zipline through the canopy of the rainforest on a system of cables. Orchids, bromeliads and ferns share this aerial existence with an abundance of wildlife. If you're lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the resplendent quetzal. Spend the afternoon visiting the Monteverde Biological Cloud Forest Preserve, which is acclaimed as one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in the New World Tropics. End the day with a visit to the Orchids of Monteverde, where over 100 different types of orchids can be found.

Overnight: Monteverde

Day 7
Leave the cloud forest behind and travel down to the backside of Lake Arenal, on your way to the mighty slopes of the Arenal, Costa Rica's most active volcano. After your arrival, hike to the beautiful Fortuna Waterfall which pours straight out of the rainforest. Swim in the natural pools at its base or just soak up the beauty of these amazing falls. In the late afternoon and evening, relax in the magical Tabacon Hot Springs and witness lava exploding out of the volcano against the backdrop of night, an incredible sight!

Overnight: La Fortuna

Day 8
Today you will make your way to the highlands of Turrialba. Your route will bring you through the Sarapiqui region, where you can take a relaxing cruise up the Sarapiqui River. Because of the agricultural practices of the area, the river's edge has become the final refuge for many of the areas species. It is both a wonderful opportunity to see these creatures and a vivid example of the effects of deforestation. Continue on to the coffee and tea plantations of Turrialba, where you can rest up before your run down the Pacuare tomorrow.

Overnight: Turrialba

Day 9
Head to the banks of the Pacuare River for an unforgettable day of white water rafting. This, one of the world's most scenic rivers, slices through virgin rainforest and plunges down mountain gorges, while beautiful waterfalls cascade from far above. The beauty of the river is coupled equally with the thrill and the challenge of the Class III and IV rapids. Stop on the riverside for an excellent picnic lunch. When your run down the river is complete, return to the hotel for a final night in San Jose.

Overnight: San Jose
