Day 1: June 21, 2011

Arrive into Costa Rica’s capital of San Jose any time throughout the day. Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your nearby hotel. In the evening, all of the workshop participants and instructors will gather to meet one another, review the trip's itinerary, plans, and goals and to enjoy dinner together.

Day 2: June 22

After breakfast we will leave San Jose and drive to Hacienda Baru on the Pacific Coast. Following lunch, Hacienda Baru founder, Jack Ewing will give an orientation lecture to discuss the natural history and cultural history as well as his own experiences at Baru. In the late afternoon, participants will be instructed to do some individual exploration/photography. After dinner, we gather for our first instructional discussion: Digital Basics (Slide Show & What, Why, & How of Digital Photography... gear talk)

Days 3 - 5: June 23 - 25

Our days at Hacienda Baru will include naturalist led hikes through the primary rainforest and mangrove forests and beaches, instruction sessions, optional adventure activities and plenty of time to photograph the exquisite surroundings. Instruction sessions include: Composition, Sharing images, Exposure Theory, Photographing Wildlife and Macro Subjects

Day 6: June 26

Enjoy a final morning to explore Baru before we drive up to the Savegre Mountain Lodge. After an orientation to this new place, we’ll take a naturalist guided hike into the cloud forest for landscape photography. After dinner, the instructional discussion will focus on: Photoshop Tips and Tricks.

Days 7 - 8: June 27 - 28

Our days at Savegre offer the opportunity to photograph the Resplendant Quetzal, a hike down the Savegre River to Savegre Falls for landscape photo ops, and time spent in the gardens to focus on hummingbird & flora shots. Instructional discussions continue in the evenings.

Day 9: June 29

This morning offers our last chance for photographing quetzals before driving back down to the Central Valley. Tonight we’ll have our final presentations and a farewell dinner.

Day 10: June 30, 2011

Departures to airport throughout the day. Optional city tours or other extensions* available.
